Hi all.
I am subscribed to the webbie newsletter and today i got an email saying about the new version and the changes that will include so i thought to post them here so you will know what to expect. You can test the new version and give feedback to the developer by going to www.webbie.org.uk and go to the webbie download page.
For those who don't know webbie is a free web brouser which makes a website plain text so it can be read with any screen reader. It also includes some other nice programs such as bbc listen again, bbc live radio, podcacher, rss news reader and much more and all this is free.
And now with the changes in the new version.
Accessible PDF Reader - New program lets you open PDF files and read them as plain text.
I.E. Appearance Editor - New program lets you change the appearance of web pages in Internet Explorer (in fact defines a user CSS stylesheet for you.) Make USB - New program lets you put all the WebbIE programs on a USB memory stick.
Accessible Gutenberg Library - Completely new user interface, easier to use and understand.
Accessible Podcast Downloader - Now defaults to downloading everything, the download mechanism is improved, and the application can be put in the system tray.
WebbIE - Many minor changes, including Ajax support, control and return submits a form when you're on the line with a form element, following internal links now allows you to go back (once only) to where you linked from, can now do Shift and Refresh to do full refresh, otherwise does lesser refresh, and can now make default browser.
Accessible Radio and BBC Listen Again - Restores wave volume when quitting so users can't accidentally turn off the volume on their machines.
New Update mechanism - checks for updates automatically every seven days and keeps WebbIE up-to-date.
Improved Help and Language editor - lets you translate WebbIE into your language more easily.
BBC iPlayer Catalogue and Player - lets you find out what programmes are available on the BBC iPlayer site and start them playing. You'll need Flash installed for this to work.
I especially liked the pdf reader from the new changes because now it is easy to open and read them and we can also save them in an accessible format.
I didn't understand what is ajax support in webbie but maybe somebody can explain that.
Enjoy.
